About the Tour
“If Savannah’s Trees Could Talk…They’d tell you about pirates, cotton, and a revolutionary town plan dating to 1733. They’d tell you about a citizenry that treats hospitality as an art form, and of a city’s beauty so profound that it stopped even General William Tecumseh Sherman in his tracks
And then those same trees – an urban canopy unequalled in the United States – would offer a more recent story. They’d tell you about things happening on the Coast that are transforming Georgia’s first city into one of the most dynamic and creative economies in the southeast.”
Savannah is a city of history, beauty, and culture. Our tour will lead us to a home on Tybee Island just 800 steps from the beautiful ocean where dolphins are common, sunsets are gorgeous, and we have the 5 bedroom home to ourselves. Tybee Island, just 15 minutes from Savannah, will be where we put up our feet and relax to enjoy the homemade food and the sun, but Savannah is where our work will be done. Homes will be built with Habitat for Humanity, kids will be taught the importance of sustainability and agriculture, and the homeless will be fed.
This tour will provide the perfect balance of service and of fun – Hilton’s Head Island, just 45 minutes away, is home to one of the only ziplines in the area. Kayaks, snorkeling, and jet skis are available on Tybee Island and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it all.
We know a domestic tour often seems less fun than an exotic foreign country, but the opportunity to serve in Savannah is unlike any other – this is a city brimming with history and beauty, and a house on the beach just can’t be beat. Enjoy the lower cost and the shorter time commitment. We’ll see you in Georgia!
Projects and Activities
Habitat for Humanity
“Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner partner families.”
Our efforts will contribute to the Habitat for Humanity Mission – “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.”
Preparing and serving food for the homeless
Even in America, there are thousands that go hungry. For an evening, we will leave our comfortable home and work side by side with Savannah locals to help those in need.
Teaching Sustainability and Agriculture to Children
We will be traveling with members of the University of Wyoming Collegiate 4-H club who are dedicated to educating people everywhere about the benefits of sustainability and agriculture. They will be spending time with kids in afterschool programs as the rest of the group will participate in other activities with kids in need.
